Remuneration: Volunteer Role – approximately 6 hours per week (12 hrs for 2 people). Phone and travel reimbursements available to a maximum of $100 per month in total. Possibility of becoming a paid position once funding is secured in SA.
The Welcome Dinner Project is a major initiative of non-profit organisation joiningthedots. The Welcome Dinner Project has been connecting newly arrived people with established Australians over pot-luck dinners in local homes since March 2013. The initiative is off to a great start in SA, with a number of successful Welcome Dinners already being held in local homes. A dedicated team of volunteers have been trained as Welcome Dinner facilitators in Adelaide and there are some existing networks and beneficial partnerships already formed with like-minded organisations.
The Welcome Dinner Project in SA is currently looking for two Coordinators to share the role and become part of our National Team. The primary responsibility of the role is to coordinate a local network of volunteers to host and promote Welcome Dinners in and around Adelaide. Both Coordinators will be supported and resourced by joiningthedots and collaborate with the other Welcome Dinner Project team staff around Australia. Initial induction and ongoing training will be provided.
Summary of role:
- Coordinate all aspects of administration and planning for Welcome Dinners in local homes and community venues: approximately one event per month, increasing over time.
- Support existing volunteers and continue to recruit additional Welcome Dinner Facilitators
- Communicate with key community partners, oversee promotions, and attend networking meetings or related events.
- Develop strategic approach to building partnerships with key agencies, groups and institutions.
- Collaborate with the other SA Coordinator.
- Coordinate reporting and evaluation processes.
- Oversee local fundraising and grant applications.
- Working from home or shared workspace with a partner organisation. Flexible hours, frequent weekday work and some weekend work required.
- You will also be required to take part in bi-monthly national team meetings (online) and an annual gathering with the National Team
- Estimated average hours per week = 6 hrs for each position (N.B: Travel and phone costs will be reimbursed)
Desired Skills and Attributes:
- Passion for creating a culture of welcome in Australia.
- Friendly, outgoing people-person, with an ability to communicate effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Experience in coordinating, motivating and empowering volunteers.
- High degree of self-motivation, initiative and attention to detail.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, database management and google apps.
- Familiarity with Adelaide communities.
- Ability to work in collaboration with a range of institutional partners.
- Experience with delivering pitches or public speaking skills.
- Some understanding of the issues being faced by newly arrived people to Australia.
- Access to your own vehicle would be an advantage.
