Smashing stereotypes: Sharing Welcome Dinner Project stories

by | Feb 20, 2017

Since 2014, hundreds of newly arrived and established Victorians have shared their homes, their food and their stories as part of the Welcome Dinner Project.

On Sunday 12 February we ran a story sharing event where guests who had attended one or more Welcome Dinners/Lunches could share how the project has impacted them. We heard stories of connection, belonging, kindness, smashing stereotypes and creating family.

This is what makes communities thrive.

We’ll be sharing some of these stories with you over the coming months. In the meantime, we’d love to thank Cam and Kirsty from The Weekly Service for helping us design the event and drawing amazing images to represent each person’s story. Special thanks also to our wonderful Wyndham coordinator Erum for filling our bellies with her delicious cooking! And to the City of Melbourne (in particular Gary Lee) for providing us with a wonderful space at the Multicultural Hub.

If you were not able to attend the event but would still like to have your story included in our impact evaluation, you can share it here
